A survey of recent and earlier works by Thomas Bregman and Carl Van Brunt.
The two artists met in 2024 at Dia: Beacon where they are employed as Gallery Attendants. Fueled by multiple conversations on art, philosophy, lived lives and their respective practices, they decided to collaborate and jointly present their artwork in a two person exhibition titled Double Vision.
This dual curated show presents their work in deliberate pairings that reveal contrasts and unexpected resonances across media, subject matter and motivation. Both artists have styles developed and refined over many years. Double Vision includes current work as well as key earlier pieces from their ongoing practices.
Much of Bregman’sart is informed by political and social themes, while Van Brunt’s art reflects a contemplative approach rooted in his personal meditation practice. Bregman paints and also utilizes sculpture and larger scale installation. Van Brunt started as painter employing traditional media: oil and then acrylic, and has worked using digital technology for most of his career.
At its core, Double Vision embraces the inevitability — and necessity — of multiple perspectives. While this principle has long animated the history of art, it remains equally essential to a healthy democracy, where varying viewpoints sustain dialogue, challenge long held assumptions, and nurture creative expression.Double Vision will be presented at ADS Warehouse (August 14 – September 12) and is free and open to the public on Fridays (5-8pm), Saturdays (12-8pm) & Sundays (12-5pm).
Visitors may call, text, or email in advance to schedule a visit to the gallery at other times during the week.
